Investors flock Brisbane as 2010 proves to be year of the investor

Activity among investors is already backing up reports that 2010 is to be the year of the investor, and Brisbane is the investors' city of choice. Confidence is high due to a strengthening economy, the fact that house values had increased nationally last year despite the effects of the Global Financial Crisis, and that interest rates had stayed put for another month.

A survey by PRD Nationwide had this month revealed national investors rate Brisbane as the capital city with the best property investment opportunities. Strong population growth across the state, particularly in Brisbane which is expected to gain about 52,000 new residents each year, has created a strong demand for housing, and astute investors have recognised this and are aiming to take advantage while they can.

Brisbane has long been acknowledged as one of the best lifestyle cities in Australia, with our great weather, relaxed lifestyle and proximity to the coast making it a great city for raising a family. As our cultural and industrial infrastructure increases, Brisbane is also becoming an increasingly attractive destination for young and established professionals.

There are a number of major transport infrastructure projects currently underway, with the CLEM7 project reaching completion this month. She said that, with connections at Bowen Hills, Kangaroo Point and Woolloongabba ,the 6.8km tollway will reduce travel times by up to 30%, cut fuel costs, lower stress and improve safety.
The tunnel takes motorists under the Brisbane River and provides a much-needed CBD bypass. For example, it takes less than 5 minutes to travel between the Royal Brisbane and PA hospitals using the CLEM7.

Other projects underway include the new Gateway Bridge, featuring a dedicated pedestrian and cycle path with rest area and viewing platform and six lanes each way. Another bridge, this one due for completion this year, is the Hale Street Link, featuring cyclist and pedestrian paths, as well as four lanes for traffic connecting South Brisbane and West End with Milton, Coronation Drive and the Inner City Bypass.

At the other side of town, the Western Corridor transport projects, are working on expansion of the Centenary Highway and upgrades to the Ipswich Motorway (an $884 million has been allocated by the Federal Government for additional works between Dinmore and Goodna, and for initial planning for an upgrade from Dinmore to Rocklea) together with improved rail connections for the growth areas west of Brisbane, including Ipswich, Amberley, Springfield and the Ripley Valley.

Upgrades to rail infrastructure has certainly been a focal point for the Federal Government, which is contributing $20 million for a feasibility study into two new rail tunnel corridors in Brisbane's CBD to be delivered between 2016 and 2026.

A lot of infrastructure activity improving traffic flow to the airport is currently underway, including the Airport Link, an underground tunnel connecting Brisbane's northern suburbs, the Inner City Bypass and the Clem 7 tunnel to the airport precinct. Plans are also underway for the parallel runway project and expansion of the domestic terminal to cope with increased air traffic.
